"Aiyudda Robin Uthappa" ,born on 11 November 1985 in Kodagu, Karnataka, is an Indian cricketer.

The son of Venu Uthappa, an international hockey referee, he made his one-day international debut

in the seventh and final match of the English tour of India in April 2006. He had a successful debut,

making 86 as an opening batsman before being run out. It was the highest score for any Indian

debutant in a limited overs match.

Uthappa first came to the public's attention when he made 66 for India B against India A in the

Challenger Trophy in 2005. The following year, in the same tournament,

Uthappa made matchwinning 93-ball 100 against the same team which propelled him in the big league.

Previously, he had been a member of the India under-19 team that won the Asia Cup. Once a

wicketkeeper-batsman, his List A batting average of near 40 with a strike rate of approximately 90

has made him regarded as something of a limited overs cricket specialist.

He was recalled to the ODI side in January 2007 for the series against the West Indies where he

 smashed a 70 from just 41 balls.

He has been recently selected in the 15 member squad of the Indian Cricket team for the ICC

Cricket World Cup 2007 to be held in West Indies in this March-April.

Robin is sometimes confused with Vinay Uthappa, coincidentally a wicketkeeper batsman from

Karnataka but the two are in no way related.

Brilliant track record:-

His ODI record were brilliant as well with a strike rate of 111 and a career high of 160.

A product of Brijesh Patel Cricket Academy, Uttapha began his cricketing journey with

 St. Joseph Boy's High School.

The Under-19 World Cup in Dhaka in February 2004 was Uthappa's calling. After being

narrowly beaten by South Africa, Uthappa starred in a 175 run opening wicket

partnership with Shekhar Dhawan against Scotland, the latter went on to score an

 unbeaten 155.

Uttapha was unlucky to miss out on his ton scoring a blistering 97 with 15 boundaries

and a six. India raised a world record score of 425 runs thrashing the Scots by 270

runs. In the semi-final he scored a solid 33 but India lost the match to arch rivals

Pakistan. But Uthappa's all-round abilities caught the imagination of cricketing world.

His Idol:-

Uthappa considers Rahul Dravid as his mentor - and

he has reasons for it. Both hail from the same state-

Karnataka, although Uthappa is an attacking batsman.

The fact that he can keep wickets and stand up to any

challenge thrown at him makes him similar to Dravid.

If Uthappa comes anywhere close to Dravid's contribution,

 Robin Uthappa

he would have done Indian cricket a great service. He

surely has it in him; the fact that he is just 20 makes him

an ideal candidate for Team India. Blood him now and reap

the riches later.
